The
Crosier for the CADW ‘Cauldrons and Furnaces’
project at The Bishop’s Palace, St Davids. |
This
was one of four major projects funded by the Legacy Trust as part
of the nationwide Cultural Olympiad.
Local artists worked with schools on the theme of pilgrimage,
the results of their work culminated in a spectacular event to
welcome the group of pilgrims who had walked for 22 days along
an ancient route across Brecon and Carmarthenshire to St Davids.
Charlotte Cortazzi worked with children to create a series of
large Silk Banners for the procession and silk flags the Bishops
Palace. The event included music, dance, the cathedral choir,
sculptures and theatre.
The
Crosier was carved and gilded wood with gold tassles and incorporated
children’s imagery on the theme of travelling and life’s
journey.
