An
exhibition organised by artist Raul Speek showing local artist’s
work in churches along the old pilgrimage routes to St Davids,
‘Footprints’ was carved from an old piece of Mahogany
that had been taken out of a house in Pembroke Dock during renovations,
it had probably been part of a ship.
I found it an interesting idea to link the location of the ancient
sacred site of St. Gwyndaf’s (being near the site of the
‘last invasion of Britain’ where the French troops
had destroyed half the church)) and the strange carved face up
in the roof beams of the church to these ancient looking carved
footprints.
(the
exhibition photograph shows the same sculpture in an exhibition
in St Davids Cathedral gallery on the theme of pilgrimage)
