This sculptural feature inspired by Cleopatra’s Needle was created as a focal point in the new garden area in Gwilliam Court in the Monkton housing Estate near Pembroke.

The area was previously the site of burnt out flats, Pembrokeshire County Council Housing Department with funding from the Welsh Office commissioned the creation of a Community Garden.

Designs for the garden were chosen from local schoolchildren.

Robert worked with the Monkton Youth Club and Monkton School to create imagery showing things that were important to them.

The designs were carved on to the pole and then the children painted them.

The Pole works as a sundial Gnomon casting it’s shadow on the surrounding paved area and walls.
